Funko Fusion Review

I've never collected Funko Pops, but Funko Fusion still caught my eye. I was intrigued by his strange concept of combining completely unrelated entertainment franchises into a third-person shooter, and when it became clear that he was inspired LEGO video games, I was even more on board. But after the game Funko FusionI can say that Funko fans are better off buying vinyl figures.

Funko FusionA weird collection of random IP addresses sounds like a fun idea on paper, but it doesn't work in execution. List of franchises presented in Funko Fusion runs the gamut from Five Nights at Freddy's to Mega manpresented through unlockable characters and game stages. The seven franchises get full-scale worlds where most of the action takes place, though the IPs chosen for greater focus were pulled out of a hat. This is confusing Umbrella Academyyears from the height of its popularity and coming off an almost universally acclaimed final season, has five levels dedicated to it, and in 2024 something more cultural, e.g. Invinciblehas only one. And while I love Edgar Wright's hilarious 2007 comedy Hot fluffstrangely, it also has five levels instead of Wright's own Shaun of the Deadwhich is easily the more popular film.

Even so, it can be fun to find special characters like Chucky Children's game Art Funko Fusionand there's an absurdity to it all that at least makes things entertaining on a surface level. It's clear that developers love the IP featured Funko Fusionwith such whimsical touches as number five from Umbrella Academy teleport instead of dodging like other playable characters in the game. It's also nice to see the worlds of these franchises recreated, and avid fans of the IP will get some entertainment value from exploring certain levels.

But when it comes to the game itself, Funko Fusion it's a disaster. Players will soon forget the dirty charm of seeing random franchises thrown at darts when they find themselves in the trenches trying to play the game. Typical Funko Fusion The level is basically an open area where players walk around, solve simple puzzles with vague objectives, and shoot tons of enemy Funko Pops. It can be confusing at times to know where to go next and what to do, and the game suffers from being repetitive and buggy. Players won't know if they can't advance the story because they haven't figured out what to do or because the game isn't working properly.

And even if everything works fine, Funko Fusion goals can be incredibly boring. Several levels have escort missions that are rarely enjoyable. One particularly annoying escort mission can be found in a Jurassic World a stage where players have to accompany the gyroball through an area they have already explored in the previous level. Players must keep enemies away from the ball and stay close to it to keep it moving, but touching the ball knocks players down. This will happen about a dozen times until players reach the end of the level. Combine that with the extreme lag that Jurassic World the levels seem to suffer and players will have no desire to replay them.

Unfortunately, unlocking Funko FusionSecret characters and levels often mean replaying stages you've already completed, which only adds to the repetitiveness of the game. Taking a page from LEGO The games tutorial, players are encouraged to replay levels using different characters with unique abilities that can then be used to solve puzzles that were impossible to complete during the initial playthrough. In theory it would Funko Fusion great replay value, but since the levels are already so miserable to play, the thought of replaying them is deeply terrifying.

The Funko Fusion boss fights are terrible

Funko FusionThe biggest challenges come in his brutal boss fights. Like its levels, Funko Fusion boss fights are repetitive, buggy, and often take too long. Many of the bosses rely on a ground attack that sends players a shockwave that they can jump over, and in most cases killing them is a matter of shooting weak points or boringly filling a pipe with purple goo. Bosses are annoying because they often take too long to take damage, and even then it takes so long to kill some of them that players will start to question whether the game has bugs.

But for now Funko FusionThe boss fights are terrible, 10:10 Games to its credit have already made some big improvements from what they were when the game first launched. The very last Funko Fusion the update changed the balance of some boss fights to make them more tolerable, mainly by eliminating constantly respawning enemies. Until update, Funko Fusion players had to deal not only with the boss, but in some cases with an endless barrage of enemies, which made it difficult to focus on the combat itself. These enemies also often interrupted their potion animations, making healing or activating buffs much more frustrating than they needed to be. After updating, Funko FusionBoss battles are definitely improved, although their basic design is still lacking.

The final boss fight is at the end Funko Fusion worlds culminate in kaiju-like battles in which players don't actually participate but instead watch the action unfold, which is anticlimactic to say the least. The stories told in each world also suffer from lack of proper payment, with Umbrella Academy world is one of the worst offenders. Its first two missions tell the story of Season 1, but Season 2 is mostly skipped, and then the last few levels take place in Season 3. It cannot be monitored or cared for. Funko Fusion trying to imitate LEGO a playful way of telling stories, but it's a poor imitation.

Funko Fusion
The latest balance update also improved progression, allowing players to unlock new worlds faster and reach the final boss without having to go through all the bonus levels.

From the unfunny clips to the overall concept, Funko Fusion often found as off-brand LEGO game It tries to replicate things like the satisfaction of smashing every object in sight, but delivers something less satisfying because most of the objects players can hit don't even break. Most of the time they bounce, spin, and shoot little balls that serve as cues Funko Fusioncurrency of Russia. Players can use said money on machines scattered throughout the levels to obtain healing items and weapons, as well as crafting important objects needed to complete any stage. I think it should be Funko Fusion's equivalent of building objects in LEGO games, but like other ways Funko Fusion trying to copy LEGO games, it doesn't inspire the same excitement.

The defining feature of Art LEGO the games have co-op support. Predictably, Funko Fusion co-op has been confirmed for a long time, but as of this writing it is not available in the game. Funko Fusion online co-op is coming in October, but not having such an important feature available at launch is a really mind-boggling decision. Anyone willing to play through Funko Fusion will be done by the time co-op is in the game, and the levels aren't fun enough to warrant replaying with a friend.

Funko Fusion combines its interesting concept with simple gameplay, and it's hard to see how co-op could make it more bearable. With that said, the latest game balance update has made it at least a little bit better, so maybe future updates will be more important than expected.

Funko Fusion is available now for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X with Switch and PS4 versions launching on November 15th. Game Rant received the PC code for this review.
