Flick impressed by Yamal, Ansu and Barcelona’s youth as German coach settles in at new club

WASHINGTON: Second-half goals from Argentina forwards Juan Brunetta and Maximilian Meza gave Mexico's Liga MX a 4-1 victory over Major League Soccer in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday.

Argentinian forward Herman Berterame and Moroccan winger Oussama Idrissi also scored for the Mexican League elite side in the triumph in Columbus, Ohio.

MLS has won both previous All-Star meetings against Mexican league opponents, drawing 1-1 and winning 3-2 on penalties in 2021 and winning 2-1 in 2022.

In the 16th minute, Berterame, a 25-year-old forward from the Mexican club “Monterrey”, opened the scoring.

Columbus Crew's Colombian winger Kucha Hernandez equalized in MLS in the 17th minute.

Idrissi responded for Liga MX in the 41st minute to give his side a 2-1 lead before the break.

Substitute Brunetto, a striker for Tigres UNL, extended the Liga MX lead in the 68th minute, while Meza, a winger for Monterrey who also came off the bench early in the second half, added another goal in the 69th minute for final advantage.

Inter Miami's Lionel Messi has been ruled out of MLS action due to a right ankle injury suffered during Argentina's win over Colombia in the Copa América final.

Messi, who also missed two MLS games last week, is uncertain for Miami's home game against Pueblo on Saturday as Inter begins its defense of the League Cup, the second year of the tournament involving MLS and Liga MX clubs, which begins on Friday.
