The Yu-Gi-Oh! The animated series has gone through several different installments, and with each comes new maps, new ways to duel, and a brand new main character. It's always a breath of fresh air to have a new character to follow on the journey, but while their personalities are certainly important, so are their looks, given that these are the people viewers will see the most in the series.

luckily Yu-Gi-Oh! the franchise has always been known for its unique designs, some of which have become iconic among anime fans, while others have been overlooked for one reason or another. It's time to compare the design and appearance of each main character to determine which one deserves to be called the most unique and memorable of them all.

8 Yugo Odo (Yu-Gi-Oh! Seven)

A simple yet striking design that's not too complicated or flashy

Yu-Gi-Oh! Seven is a series that is aimed more at a younger audience, and as a result Yugo, the main character, has a simpler and more casual design compared to his counterparts. However, as it is Yu-Gi-Oh!he has a striking design, especially his bright red hoodie and colorful hair, which make Yugo stand out among the supporting characters of the series.

Yugi's bright green eyes are another distinguishing feature of his design that makes him instantly recognizable, but in the end, he lacks the little extra details and features that have made the other characters so eye-catching. However, when watching the Seven series, Yugi's appearance doesn't really matter as his infectious charisma still makes him a fun character.

7 Jaden Yuki (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX)

Jaden is instantly recognizable by his collar and bright brown eyes

The main character Yu-Gi-Oh! GXJaden Yuki, opts for a slightly more casual style than his colleagues, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Jaden's red-collared school uniform became synonymous with the character, along with his spiky brown hair, which was much more grounded compared to Yugi's previous hairstyle.

However, it feels like author Takahashi decided to hold back a bit when developing Jaden. The reason for this may have been to make it more relatable, given that GX is based in a school and was aimed more at younger viewers than the original series.

6 Yuma Tsukumo (Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL)

Yuma manages to mix a casual look with high-tech gadgets

At first glance, Yuma's design may seem a bit over the top, but there are many small details here that harken back to the series' roots and emphasize Yuma's character traits. His sleeveless red jacket paired with his gold necklace is almost identical to Atem's look from the first series, but Yugi's chaotic hairdo and visor still help make him unique enough to be his own hero.

Furthermore, it also presents him as a duelist who is serious about winning, always with technology equipped to destroy anyone who stands in his way. Another small but stylish feature is the studded bracelet Yuma wears on her right wrist, giving off a subtle punk rock vibe.

5 Yuya Sakaki (Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V)

Yui's design gives the impression that he is a skilled, albeit childish duelist

Yui's design is bright, attractive and effortlessly stylish for someone his age. The most noticeable part of his appearance is his red and green hair, which could easily look creepy, but manages to work because of how each piece blends together. His glasses that never leave his head are a great little detail to show how childlike and adventurous Yuya is, which also ties in with his light Performapal monster deck.

Yuya also decides to wear a long white cape, which works well, presenting him as a fearsome duelist who is definitely dressed for the occasion. Speaking of dueling, Yuya may not be as strong as some of the others on this list, but his design certainly deserves a lot of credit for how much it speaks to his character.

4 Yusaku Fujiki (Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains)

Yusaku doesn't need to overdo fashion to stand out

​​​​​​Though he appears to be a fairly ordinary high school boy at first glance, there is something about Yusaku's design that suggests there is much more to this mysterious young man than meets the eye. The Yu-Gi-Oh! The series is no stranger to weird and wacky hairstyles, but Jaska's hairstyle is particularly unique in that it contains little pink flecks that almost look like lightning bolts running through it.

The same can be said for his jacket, which has thick blue lines running around the edges. While these little details really add some pop to a fairly standard outfit, they also reference his Playmaker look, which he'll use when engaging in duels against his enemies later in the series.

3 Yusei Fudo (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds)

Yusei's more grounded appearance speaks volumes about his character and upbringing

Yusei's easy stylish design almost makes him look like a fan of Jataro Kujo from Jojo's Amazing Adventuresespecially the black coat and the constant scowl that rarely leaves his face. Its more grounded design really suits the slightly more mature and darker tone Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Dswhile maintaining an unusual hairstyle that makes him a worthy member Yu-Gi-Oh! to cast

A few additional details that say a lot about Yusei's personality are his little brown gloves. Since Yusei grew up in Satellite, a poor neighborhood outside of the luxurious Domino City, the gloves, as well as his slightly rough coat and face, show that he is someone who has to fight for everything he has, rather than having it handed to him on a silver platter.

2 Yudias Velgear (Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!!)

Yudya looks almost like he's from a completely different anime with his otherworldly design

Looking at him, it's hard not to be intrigued by who Yudyas is and his backstory, which is a sign of great character design. The flamboyant blue and white hair, golden necklace, single shoulder pad, and bright white robe suggest that this is potentially a soldier who has fought hard duels over the years, but is actually an alien who has landed on Earth to learn more about Rush Duels.

Once this is revealed, it becomes clear why he looks so out of place, but it also perfectly emphasizes how prestigious this otherworldly being must be among his people. Yudias undoubtedly has one of the most attractive designs in the series; to be full of intrigue and mystery.

1 Yugi/Atem (Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Duel)

One of the simplest stylish looks in all of anime

It's hard to argue with Yugi, and in turn, Atem's design is one of the most iconic in all of anime. Absurdly cool red, black and gold hair paired with a loose blue jacket and a Millenium-Puzzle chain make for a character that looks like it was plucked from the 90s, which isn't a bad thing.

Being two characters at the same time also meant that writer Takahashi was able to experiment with his facial features, opting for a more passive look for Yugi with large and wide eyes, while Atem looks more serious and stoic. Yugi and Atem's amazing design did Yu-Gi-Oh seems like more of a cool and hip hobby than a kid's card game that just goes to show how much impact character design can have.
