The Adventures of Blade Frontiers
Baldur's gate 3 is distinguished by its seemingly endless possibilities and outcomes, as each choice has a profound effect on how the story unfolds and its final outcome. This also applies to your allies, whose fate will be determined by your choices throughout your adventure, and may end up taking a completely different path than their original goals.
Relatives
Baldur's Gate 3: The 9 biggest differences when playing as Will
If you're playing as Will in Baldur's Gate 3, expect to see these changes in your playthrough.
Will, Blade of the Borders is a great example. Initially tasked with slaying a certain 'demon', the young Ravengard's very existence could be forever changed. Whenever you decide to bring him along as a loyal companion, the results for our favorite goody-two-shoes warlock are many. Giving it that horned look is just the beginning.
Lost in the grove
Since he has no interest in bloodshed, Will leaves your party when you decide to attack the Emerald Grove with Mintara. He usually tries to warn Grove, but stays with the group when you convince him it's a goblin trap.
If you do decide to betray the Tiefling with him in your party, Will will become hostile and you are forced to kill him. If he is in your camp during the attack, he will leave during the goblin's holiday party.
Exactly the same if you never recruited Will, his body will be found after the battle if you side with the goblins. If you side with the Tieflings but never recruit him, he simply won't appear in the next Acts once you head into Act 2.
An early visit to hell
During Act 2, Mizora asks for the player's help in rescuing one of Zariel's servants (the ruler of Avernus) from the hands of the Absolute. The servant is none other than Mizora herselftrapped inside a pod of Illithids. You'll meet her as soon as you reach the Mind Eater colony under the Moonrise Towers.
If you choose to leave Mizora or kill her, Will is immediately sent to Avernus for all eternity as a lemura chubby monster destined to torture day after day. This is due to the violation of one of the clauses of the pact, neglecting one's duty. This happens even though Will didn't judge his patron, so I wouldn't ignore her if you cared a little bit about him.
Duke Ravengard
After completing Will's character quest (Blade of the Borders) by defeating the dragon Ansur in Act 3, Will is given a choice: follow in his father's footsteps and become the next Duke of Baldur's Gate.
You can encourage him to put down his blade and pursue a political life, and he'll take the position once you've dealt with the Void Brain. It is not necessary to save the father to come to this conclusion.
You'll have a chance to meet the newest Duke during the Withers' epilogue party. Will's personal struggles and victories depend on the choices you make as you progress through the game. He will comment on how his horns could be a nuisance if he becomes a demon, for example.
He seeks to rule with three other dukes, which will include Florrick and his father Ulder Ravengard, if they are still alive. He's still looking for another leader and invites the player to take on that role if you've romanced him.
If his contract with Mizora is broken, she'll be nowhere to be found, and Will mentions that he's learned a few tricks of his own. When he is still her servant, she stays around him all the time in human clothing, much to her amusement and annoyance to him. Regardless of the situation, Will wants to rebuild the city and create as many alliances as possible.
The blade of Avernus rises
If Will becomes a demon and you complete his quest but don't encourage him to become a duke or tell him he's a hero, he would take a new title as the Blade of Avernus. After accepting his new nature, he begins to hunt demons and demons directly in Avernus. In six months, he will be invited to a party with Withers.
You can join him on this new journey by romancing himand you will both be called for an epilogue later. During the epilogue, he will be excited to share stories about his carved footprints. If you went to Hell together, he will instead remember how you both defeated them.
Like other endings, there are some differences depending on how you led your adventures. He mentions that his father is proud of him while he's alive, and that Mizora is surprisingly cool with his new purpose, allowing him to freely go after any enemies of Avernus as long as they're still bound by the contract.
However, when their contract is broken, he mentions that she is his next target and is currently looking for a way to find and defeat her once and for all. Now he is a ranger because he lost his warlock abilities.
This ending also has another branch. After defeating Netherbrain, when Will became the Blade of Avernus and you completed Karlach's character quest, he offers to return to Avernus with her, vowing to protect her from Zariel.
She agrees, and together they both search for the clue to Karlach's heart in Avernus. He will talk about their adventures together during the epilogue, and the two of them have become much closer during those six months. Naturally, you can also join them if you want. Possibly the best ending for Karlach and a great one for Will.
The Adventures of Blade Frontiers
Will will retain his original title if you manage to complete his personal quest without turning him into a demon and you choose not to be a dukeor if you don't complete his quest at all.
Failing the quest works for both human and demon Will. This is the only way to give him this ending as a demon.
This ending is very similar to the Blade of Avernus route, with the most notable difference being the monsters it kills (creatures like dragons and giants instead of demons). Naturally, Karlach's duet cannot happen, since he has no reason to go to Avernus.
His relationship with his father and with Mizora is also pretty much the same, with small details changed to suit his situation. Will remains largely the same as when you met himso while it's not a bad ending per se, it's not the best of them either. At least he can stay alive and happy.
