After the events before Life is amazingMax loses her ability to rewind time, but eventually discovers that she has the new powers of Shift and Pulse. At the same time, Pulse allows Max to extend her supernatural senses to detect where the veil is weakest between the two timelines so she can identify places where it can shift. Life is Strange: Double Exposure recognizes the choices made by the players at the end of the first game.
