Musk has recently become more vocal about his criticism of the gaming industry on Twitter, even expressing interest in starting an AI game studio to “make games great again.” It seems the billionaire may have been more serious about the venture than some might have expected Musk hinted at buying Hasbro in a recent tweet. The specific mention of Hasbro is also not surprising, since Musk led a discussion about Dungeons and Dragons for the past week. On November 22, Musk issued a criticism Dungeons and Dragons Remarks by Product Manager Jason Tondro in the Making of D&D 40th Anniversary book.
Elon Musk's potential purchase of Hasbro could be fueled by his passion for Dungeons and Dragons
In the preface to the book, Tondra distanced himself from Dungeons and Dragons“original creators, including E. Gary Gygax, prompting a backlash from Musk. The billionaire condemned Tondro's comments, saying that no one “should trash” Gygax and that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast should not stand for it. A week later, another a Twitter user posted Tondro's reaction to the outrage, to which Musk replied, “How much is Hasbro worth?” While this offhand remark is far from a formal statement of intent, Musk's enthusiasm is clear Dungeons and Dragons nor does it rule out a potential Hasbro acquisition.
It should also be noted that Musk asked a similar question about the value of Twitter back in 2017, and seven years later the platform is under his ownership. It remains to be seen what will become of Musk's potential plans to buy Hasbro, but if he does go through with it, the billionaire will gain control of Dungeons & Dragonsas well as other famous IP addresses such as Transformers, Monopoly, Magic: The Gathering, Here are the alliesand My little pony. The timing is also in line with Musk's game studio's AI goals, but whatever comes of it likely won't feature crime on a comparable level to Grand Theft Auto 5.
