Early in Dragon Age: The Veilguardtwo cities are being attacked and you can only defend one of them personally. As a result, the city you miss takes a beating and the companion from that city becomes hardened.
Later on, you'll get the chance to start doing side quests, helping them with their problems to make them more useful. However, a few side quests are important enough to be major story quests, and you must complete them in order to progress through the game. If you choose to protect Travis earlier in the game, this quest will be “The Cobblestone Swan Affair”. If you choose Minrathous, the required companion quest is Bloodbath.

Where to find collectibles in Bloodbath
Whether it's mandatory or optional, Bloodbath basically plays out the same way. Start the quest by going to a location southeast of Treviso, in the Streets of Coin Financials area. There are plenty of chests and souvenirs to collect as you approach and explore the shrine. Here's where to start:
- Go up the first set of stairs and open the large chest on the left.
- Exit through the broken window, then go around the boxes on the left. Make your way through the wooden planks, cross the beam and look to the right for another large chest.
- Back outside, go up to the blue roof in the center of the area. There is a Note between the chimneys.
Follow the quest marker to continue. Hilario appears, surprising Lukanis. Say “Lucanis said no” to get approval. After the conversation, continue across the rooftops and down the stairs into the front courtyard of the temple.
- Go directly south of the stairs and follow the stairs down and around. Break through the wooden planks to reveal a small chest.
- Next to the large gate in the south-east corner of the yard is the Memorial.
- Go up the stairs to the front door, but instead turn right to find a large chest. Then go to the left of the door to pick up a small chest.
Go through the front door and run forward to fight a large group of Venatori led by Portia (more on her and the other mini-bosses below).
- Inspect Portia's body for an item.
- In the southeast corner of this room is a small chest.

You can continue by opening the door in the northeast corner and then interacting with the bookshelf. At the same time, the staircase opens. Go forward from the base of the stairs, then look to the right to see a large chest in a cage.
This path eventually leads to a courtyard where you'll find more Venatori and Faustus.
- Like Portia, Faustus also drops the chest.
- Go through the double doors into the prayer room. Straight ahead, through the door on the other side of the prayer room, is a small chest.
- The next mini-boss fight is against Nonus and Decimus. The second one to fall drops the chest.
- Head south of the fight to find a small chest.
- To the west of the chest are two rooms: one to the south, the other to the north. The northern room has a small chest inside.
- Enter the south room and go up the stairs. Use the broken window to go to the second floor of the north room and deploy the stairs, then open the chest on the north wall.
- Jump out of the broken window in the north wall to land next to a large chest. Open it, then jump over the railing to return to the path.
When you return to the south room, Zara will be just down the hall.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Top 8 Companion Attacks
Companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard can combine their skills to unleash devastating combo attacks. Here are the best ones that you can take advantage of.
How to beat the Bloodbath minibosses
As you make your way through the Fallen Temple, you'll encounter several Zara Lieutenants, Venatori cultists who look like normal enemies but have higher health and special traits. Here's what to expect from each of them.
Portion
Portia is a Venatori mage with these traits Necrotic, Necromancer and Rejuvenating. This means her barrier can return if you don't attack her for too long and she can summon an armored undead warrior. She can only control one warrior at a time, but can summon a new one once you destroy an existing one. Your best bet is to focus all of your attention on her first, then wipe out the other cultists when you're done.
Faust
Faust is a warrior Venatorius Physically imbued and blasted. This makes physical attacks less effective, and every ten seconds or so he does damage to a large area around him. For this combat encounter, take out his support wizards first, then try to keep Faust at a distance using ranged elemental weapons.
Nonus and Decimus
These two are a pair of Venatori defenders. Nonus has Armor, Juggernaut and Syrin Teterwhile Decimus has Frenzy, Glass Cannon and Searing Tether. Juggernaut means Nonus is harder to knock down or break, plus he doesn't have a Stagger bar. Insanity and Glass Cannon combine to give Decimus more attacks and more damage, but no extra health. Finally, a burning tether connects them and will damage the rook if you stand between them.
Because of his offensive combat traits, target Decimus first and only worry about Nonus once he's down. Like other shield enemies, you can bypass their defenses by using charged attacks, abilities, and using your companions to get their attention.

How to defeat Zara Renata
Zara behaves like an assassin enemy, meaning she attacks quickly and can parry uncharged attacks coming straight ahead. Like other Venators, she is resistant to fire and vulnerable to cold, and has the Physical Embued trait. However, it also has some unique conditions that make this fight more of a puzzle than a normal fight.
- Zara does not want to leave a pool of blood. If you don't interfere with it, all she can do is attack you with her three projectiles and teleport away.
- When you enter the pool, her attacks include blood nova, teleport punches, a long melee combo, and a drill.
- At three points during the fight, Zara will summon three Venatori minions. Two will attack the Rook and their companions, while the third will stand still and create a barrier for Zarya. While the generator is alive, Zarya's barrier will regenerate if you don't hit her often enough. As you defeat each generator, Zara's barrier will lower.
- Multiple waves of minions can appear at the same time, so get rid of them as soon as they appear. Don't worry about Zara until they are all gone.
When Zara's health drops to zero, her death occurs in a cutscene. A lot happens and then Rook and Lukanis head back to the Lighthouse to discuss. Your rewards for this quest include 2250 XP, armor for Lucanis, 400 gold and +100 strength Antivan Crows.
