- The new chapter of Dead by Daylight introduces the Houndmaster, a murderous pirate who can expose his dog to the survivors.
- However, its review score on Steam has already dropped to “Mostly Negative” as many players are reporting that they are experiencing numerous bugs.
Dead by Daylight's newest chapter, Doomed Course, got off to a rocky start. A week after launch, it received “overwhelmingly negative” reviews on Steam, with many citing the list of bugs that plague its new assassin, The Houndmaster.
What the reviews say
“This chapter introduces a new assassin to the game, The Buggy Mess,” VitherMaster says bluntly.
“If there's one Slayer that was the most buggy and cutting edge in DbD history, it would have to be the Twins, but the Houndmaster is ON A WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL,” writes WisdomWangle in his scathing review.

The Houndmaster, as you might guess from their name, can use their dog to stalk, track down, and grab survivors. The idea is that they'll bring survivors to you so you can hook them, but as several fans on the subreddit have pointed out, the dog is incredibly sharp at the moment, often stalling or even dragging survivors away from you
However, even if the Hound works as intended, players have noted that it has a number of “overbalanced” flaws that make the Houndmaster a less viable Slayer than alternatives like Wesker or Nurse.
“She has six different dog counters,” explains Jsaledout. “Chase:
- Juke
- It is immobile, so it loses distance when redirected
- Flying on the successful dog incap
- She is hindered after using the whistle and not using the force
- The dog *must* be returned and near you before you can use the energy (cannot be used immediately if the dog is away)
- A dog can be stunned *and* the dog won't follow if something blocks it [line of sight] new or different.”
Others have also noted that The Houndmaster has a higher skill ceiling than most other assassins, but that she is “not particularly good when played well”.
At least in the last few hours the feedback has increased from “Mostly negative”, but it's clear that the community is not taking this new section well so far.
