Characters who destroyed planets

Key conclusions

  • Frieza is second only to Beerus in planet destruction
  • Cell had a fluke in destroying the Earth saved by Goku
  • Vegeta has destroyed many planets in the past, but now she's good

Dragon ball has many powerful characters; however, not every member of its incredibly large cast can think of destroying the planet. Destroying a world requires not only power, but also precision to aim at its core, or at least that's what the show's stories say. Apart from astrophysics, planets are big targets, but they are pretty tough. Even a well placed Kamehameha wouldn't be enough to destroy it completely.

Dragon Ball: The 10 Most Polarizing Characters You'll Either Love or Hate

Dragon Ball has had many characters throughout the franchise, and while some are universally beloved, some are either loved or hated. No gaps.

So this list is about characters who, either by accident or for the pure fun of wreaking havoc, have killed worlds at some point in their careers. From the most obvious and infamous galactic tyrant of the series to the true Deity who rules all time and space.

10 Frieza

The kill count on the Emperor's planet is second only to the God of Destruction

  • First appearance: Dragon Ball manga, chapter #247. Dark clouds swirl over the planet Namek
  • Current Status: Live

Frieza showed from the moment he appeared that his only goal in life was galactic domination. And what kind of intergalactic space tyrant would this guy be if he didn't blow up a planet or two in the process? Destroying the entire planet started with the Frieza/Saiyan invasion saga, so that's kind of his personal signature: walking around, dominating some worlds, or destroying others.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Goes Into Space (As Similarities With Other Shows Become Obvious)

DAIMA's Dragon Ball takes off into space, bringing fans closer to another iconic series as new space adventures and familiar themes emerge.

Emperor Frieza has the highest kill count on the planet after the god of destruction himself: Beerus. Unsurprisingly, he is one of the candidates to replace him when this lazy (but powerful) Cat-like deity retires.

9 Cellular

It was a fluke, but still deserves to be on the list

  • First appearance: Dragon Ball manga, chapter #361. The mysterious monster finally appears!!
  • Current Status: Dead

Cell was an all-powerful being created from the cells of dozens of Z fighters and even Frieza himself. In fact, this beast was so powerful that in its final act of insolence before death, it was willing to destroy the entire Earth with it.

Luckily, Goku and his timely teleportation ability were there to save the day. But, well, Goku being Goku ended up landing on Kaio Sama's planet with a cell bomb about to explode. So the credit for this planet killing goes to both of them.

8 goku

Must share credits with Cell

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Manga Chapter 1 – Bulma and Son Goku
  • Current Status: Live

So, following the previous information that Goku blew up Kaio Sama's world, since he shares the blame with Cell for it, Goku is also partially responsible for the destruction of Namek. I know this seems far-fetched, but hear me out.

Dragon Ball: Sparkling! Zero – 10 strongest versions of Goku, ranked

Dragon Ball: Sparkling! Zero brings more than 20 versions of Goku to the battlefield, but only the best and strongest fighters can win.

During the battle with Frieza, Goku had many chances to finish off the villain before he went and dropped a bomb on the planet. But he was so angry and so out of control that he was running out of options. He wanted to make Frieza suffer for what he did to Krillin and all the people of Namek, so Goku shares the blame for destroying 2 planets. On the other hand, if he wanted to, he could completely destroy a world or two. What was already proven, ever since Zamasu took over his body, he used his power to destroy some worlds.

7 King Vegeta

Able to kill planets with a single Ki blast

  • First Appearance: Battle Power: One Million?? (anime)
  • Current Status: Dead

King Vegeta the Third, or Vegeta III, the father of the Vegeta we all know and hate/love, debuted during the Frieza saga, in a sort of flashback that explains that he was obsessed with power (like many Saiyans before and after him) and that he only obeyed Frieza out of convenience and fear. As such, he personally presided over the destruction of many worlds, and is even shown destroying several (in the OVA) with powerful Ki Blasts.

Although Vegeta III was never aware of the good fate of his own planet, he continued to follow Frieza's orders and destroy worlds until it was too late to realize that the Saiyan homeland was next on the Emperor's list for removal. He died with his world, holding on to his arrogant last will that his off-planet son be the next Super Saiyan.

6 Vegeta

He used to be bad, you know?

  • First appearance: Dragon Ball manga chapter #204 Sayonara, Son Goku
  • Current Status: Live

Vegeta's power is undeniable. Able to go head to head with Goku and the next contender for God of Destruction after Beerus, Vegeta is undoubtedly a great warrior. Ever since he returned to Earth after the destruction of Namek and was healed by Bulma. After that, he was tamed and turned into a model father (well, sort of) by an earthling genius inventor.

But wasn't he supposed to be the bad guy who destroyed entire worlds? Well, yes, basically, in a flashback, we get to see Vegeta destroy the planet Arlia while working for Frieza's army, although he is said to have destroyed many others as well. So yes, Vegeta is the destroyer of worlds, as much as he forces himself to be a good Saiyan, he carries that burden with him. However, his pride is too great for him to feel guilty about his past.

5 Majin Buu

This thing killed several worlds

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Manga #460 “Majin Buu Appears!”
  • Current Status: Live

This evil creature, which everyone seems to have forgotten, has destroyed countless worlds. Its creator and Master, the mage Babidi, used it to destroy entire civilizations. His evil actions were so heinous that even the entire council of Kaios decided to intervene to prevent his resurrection.

Relatives

Dragon Ball: Majin Buu's 6 Biggest Flaws

The bubble gum villain of Dragon Ball may seem unbeatable, but Buu has a few weaknesses that smart fighters can take advantage of.

Not that it helped much, as this guy came back to life, killed thousands, and went on a rampage, turning everyone into candy, cookies, and chocolate, among other dastardly acts. Then, of course, he killed his own master, proving that he was an uncontrollable beast. After “exorcising his evil side”, he seems to have become somewhat of a comic relief and guardian to his best friend: Mr. Satan.

4 Go ahead

Destroyed entire worlds out of spite

  • First appearance: Dragon Ball Z #252 Warlock Bobidi
  • Current Status: Dead

A small, small, fly-like alien, with a crooked mind and a cold heart. The vile sorcerer Babidi once enjoyed destroying entire worlds and civilizations until his rampage was stopped thanks to the intervention of the Council of Caios.

But that didn't stop Babidi, as he was only locked up for a while. Although not seen much in the anime, this little creature is quite capable of destroying entire planets. It's just that he prefers to send his minions to do the job while he enjoys the pain and suffering from the comfort of his throne.

3 Zamasu

No one has the right to live if he says so

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Super Episode #47 – Goku Black
  • Current Status: Dead

Zamasu is quite the lost cause: he is pure evil and insane. After stealing Goku's body, he went on a test run destroying worlds, but even before he took his Black Goku form, Zamasu had a penchant for removing those he deemed unworthy.

As seen in various flashbacks during the Goku Black saga, Zamasu not only destroyed two civilizations, but also destroyed the entire planet. Despite his master telling him to control his emotions, the boy probably destroyed several other worlds before Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks stopped his tantrum.

2 Beerus

His work literally destroys worlds

  • First appearance: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods (2013 film)
  • Current Status: Live

Don't be fooled by his “cute” sphinx cat-like appearance, this is the God of Destruction himself: Beerus. He used to walk the universe cleansing it of worlds that were “unworthy” or “unbalanced”, so he is a kind of equalizer God, bringing balance to an overly chaotic universe.

Although it is not clearly explained what his true goals are (besides eating desserts and finding a candidate to replace him after his retirement), he became a Mentor to Vegeta and Goku. but mostly for Vegeta as Goku seems to be going a different route. So he's not in the business of destroying the world at the moment, but that doesn't mean he can't snap at any moment and destroy a couple of celestial bodies.

1 Zeno Sama

This God erases entire universes with a single movement of his fingers

Omniking Zeno in Dragon Ball Super

  • First Appearance: Dragon Ball Super Manga #13 – “Victory of the Universe Decided!”
  • Current Status: Live

A mysterious being who is called the God of all creation, as well as the destroyer of all. Zeno (or Xena) Sama – God above all Gods, King of all. Ruling all universes from his infinite throne with the Father of all Angels (the Great Minister), he replaces life in all worlds and is fully capable of stopping them at will if he sees fit.

The Grand Minister informed Whis and Goku that Zenon had destroyed worlds before and that he would continue to do so. Basically, he was going to wipe out several universes, but decided it would be fun to decide which ones were allowed to stay in the martial arts tournament (thanks to Goku's suggestion), and well, the entire Dragon Ball super arc about the survival of said universes is decided via Battle Royale.
