The downed player tried to throw the grenade up and out of the water so it would slowly float down with them.

Sharing their story revealed that they were far from the only ones who learned this hard lesson during the first week of Black Ops 6.
A week after the release of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, players continue to make discoveries about what you can and can't do in the latest installment of the series, as well as the improvements Treyarch has made to the game. One of the expectations with each subsequent CoD is that it will feel more real than the last, and Black Ops 6's water physics helped clear that box this year.
Jumping into a body of water and diving under the surface is a great way to escape from an enemy in Black Ops 6, as long as you resurface when it's safe to do so and before you run out of oxygen. It turns out there's a third way to die while wading in Black Ops water outside of drowning and being taken out by an enemy, and it's self-inflicted, which was brought to the attention of Reddit user, IceVeinz77.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 review – A strong return to form
Black Ops 6 synthesizes the best parts of old school CoD to deliver a refreshing new entry.
A Black Ops player went down in the water when he was shot during a multiplayer match in Lawtown. A smart move, as it not only shielded them from enemy fire, but also shielded them from a teammate who could be seen jumping over the river they fell into to distract them while they recovered. Not only did IceVeinz77 rest until they were ready to resurface, but they decided to try and throw a grenade up and out of the river in case it killed their opponent.
Don't throw grenades underwater in Black Ops 6
This will almost certainly end badly
In the previous CoD game, this would have been a smart move as well. However, it was at this point that the player learned that the Black Ops 6 team had made some upgrades to the water physics in the series. Instead of the grenade flying out of the water onto land, it flew a few inches from the thrower's hand before slowing down, falling next to them, and exploding, finishing off the injured player.
IceVeinz77 not only shared the clip on the Black Ops 6 subreddit to poke fun at other players, but also to serve as a warning. However, despite the fact that the latest Call Of Duty is only a little over a week old, it turns out that many of you have discovered that trying to throw grenades underwater is a no-no. It's a funny detail, and it's little imaginative tweaks like this that will go a long way in making Black Ops 6 one of the most popular installments in the series' recent history.
The discovery that you have to avoid throwing grenades underwater is joined by the return of the chicken noise when you think it's prestigious but then give up, another little detail that puts a smile on many of your faces. All members of Call Of Duty and Game Pass have enjoyed a long and successful relationship after Microsoft's CEO said it was already the biggest launch in Call Of Duty history.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action game set in the early 1990s, a period of transition and upheaval in world politics characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as the sole superpower. With a stunning narrative and unrelated rules of engagement, it's signature Black Ops.
