Biggest Pokemon Ever

Summary

  • Not all Pokemon are as big as they seem; some celebrated ones are surprisingly small.
  • Some Pokemon, however, are colossal, towering over people with ease.
  • While legendary Pokemon like Ho-Oh and Dragonair may not be the largest, their significance exceeds their size.

When people see the designs of Pokemon, they often imagine them being very large. The truth is, though, that when looking at the Pokedex, many of them are not as big as they first appear. The beloved Pokemon anime has been known to take liberties with some of the sizes, too, so players are often surprised to realize that a Pokemon such as Groudon is only 11 feet tall.

Not all pseudo legendary Pokemon are created equal! Today, we’ll rank them all from worst to best.

Some Pokemon, however, are ridiculously big, and many would hurt their necks simply trying to look up at them. All of these Pokemon are easily the height of two or three people if not many, many more.

Updated December 12, 2024 by Blaise Santi: Pokemon fans are getting quite anxious to hear news about the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A, both due to the positive response to Pokemon Legends Arceus, as well as Game Freak’s teasing that Mega Evolution will return in the new game.

As Pokemon diehards know, Mega Evolution was a way to super-charge your Pokemon with all-new designs, abilities, and sometimes types, transforming some measly Pokemon into much larger and stronger creatures. Let’s take a look at some more Pokemon that are already the largest in the franchise, and maybe one of these lucky ‘mons will be the recipient of Mega Evolutions in the near future!

39 Arbok

The Cobra Pokemon

pokemon-arbok-anime-tall-grass-background2200x1100

Type

Poison

Ability

Intimidate, Shed Skin, Unnerve

Evolution Data

Evolves from Ekans at level 22

Height

11’06”

Pokedex Entry

This Pokemon has a terrifically strong constricting power. It can even flatten steel oil drums. Once it wraps its body around its foe, escaping is impossible.

Arbok certainly doesn’t look as massive as it is, unless you’ve forgotten how it dwarfs Jessie and James in the Pokemon anime. Like many entries on this list, Arbok is based on a snake, meaning most of its “height” actually comes from the combined length of its long, serpentine body.

According to the Pokedex, Arbok doesn’t take its massive size for granted, either. As of its third-generation entries, Arbok uses its long body to wrap around foes, tightening around them until there’s no escape. Luckily, the other Pokemon on this list may be too big for even Arbok to fully wrap around.

38 Miraidon

The Paradox Pokemon

most-powerful-legendary-pokemon-miraidon

Type

Electric/Dragon

Ability

Hadron Engine

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11’06”

Pokedex Entry

This seems to be the Iron Serpent mentioned in an old book. The Iron Serpent is said to have turned the land to ash with its lightning.

Miraidon is a more recent addition to the Pokemon universe, serving as the mascot legendary for Pokemon Violet. One thing Miraidon fans have to boast over fans of Koraidon, the legendary from Pokemon Scarlet, is that Miraidon is over three feet taller than its rival. Simply put, Miraidon is the Harley Davidson to Koraidon’s Schwinn bike.

Of course, Miraidon fans might not appreciate its massive size since it spends most of Pokemon Violet in Low-Power Mode as players ride it around the Paldea region. Still, how many other Pokemon on this list can boast of being ridden by players?

37 Walking Wake

The Paradox Pokemon

Walking Wake In Battle In Pokémon Violet

Type

Water/Dragon

Ability

Protosynthesis

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11’06”

Pokedex Entry

This ferocious creature is shrouded in mystery. It’s named after an aquatic monster mentioned in an old expedition journal.

Walking Wake doesn’t look so massive until you see it paired next to a trainer in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. This Paradox Pokemon appears to be a prehistoric version of Suicune, with a much more vicious and draconic design, sporting a much larger mane. Compared to the iconic Suicune, Walking Wake is almost double its size.

Introduced in Scarlet and Violet, Paradox Pokemon are more powerful versions of iconic Pokemon, with stats that can even rival Legendary Pokemon.

However, what Walking Wake has in size over Suicune, it lacks in serene grace (and we’re not talking about the Ability). Nevertheless, Walking Wake certainly takes the cake as one of the best-designed Paradox Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet.

36 Gouging Fire

The Paradox Pokemon

Gouging Fire in 'Pokemon Scarlet:Violet: The Indigo Disk'-1

Type

Fire/Dragon

Ability

Protosynthesis

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11’06”

Pokedex Entry

There are scant few reports of this creature being sighted. One short video shows it rampaging and spouting pillars of flame.

Like Walking Wake, Gouging Fire takes a prehistoric look at one of the most iconic Legendary Pokemon: Entei, a member of the Legendary Beasts from the second generation. Gouging Fire is the exact same size as Walking Wake, but both of them are dwarfed by the third member of their trio, Raging Bolt, with its massive neck.

Gouging Fire, again like Walking Wake, is twice the size of Entei. However, this Pokemon’s existence also brings into question the long-standing theory that Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are revived forms of Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon as the legends go, but perhaps these Paradox Pokemon are just simply what those Eeveelutions looked like when they were first saved.

35 Kyurem

The Boundary Pokemon

kyurem fushion white ghetsis

Type

Dragon/Ice

Ability

Pressure, Turboblaze (White Kyurem), Teravolt (Black Kyurem)

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

9’10”, 11’10” (White Kyurem), 10’10” (Black Kyurem)

Pokedex Entry

This legendary ice Pokémon waits for a hero to fill in the missing parts of its body with truth or ideals.

Kyurem was first introduced in Pokemon Black & White, described as a dragon that either came from outer space or was formed from the leftover carcass of the original dragon that split into Reshiram and Zekrom. Fortunately, Kyurem got to be center-stage in Pokemon Black 2 & White 2, where this latter theory was seemingly proven by its ability to fuse with either mascot legendary.

Compared to its original form, White Kyurem and Black Kyurem stand much taller, but the tallest of the trio is White Kyurem. It’s not that surprising, all things considered, given that Reshiram is a taller Pokemon than Zekrom even when they’re not fused with Kyurem. Hopefully one day players will get to see how big the original dragon was for it to make three already-massive Pokemon.

34 Naganadel

The Poison Pin Pokemon

naganadel in Pokemon go poipole evolution

Type

Poison/Dragon

Ability

Beast Boost

Evolution Data

Evolves from Poipole when leveled up while knowing Dragon Pulse

Height

11’10”

Pokedex Entry

One kind of Ultra Beast, it fires a glowing, venomous liquid from its needles. This liquid is also immensely adhesive.

When the 2-foot tall Poipole was introduced in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, no one probably expected it to evolve into the monstrously huge Naganadel. This Ultra Beast played a significant role in the anime, as Ash briefly owned a Poipole that evolved into one before returning to its native dimensions through a wormhole.

Its size is even acknowledged in one of its Pokedex entries, which claims that Naganadel stores hundreds of liters of poisonous fluid inside its body. Given that the Pokemon weighs over 300 pounds, one can only imagine what it would be like to have all that poisonous fluid exerted in one move.

33 Regigigas

The Colossal Pokemon

Regigigas Standing in Pokemon

Type

Normal

Ability

Slow Start

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

12’02”

Pokedex Entry

It is said to have made Pokémon that look like itself from a special ice mountain, rocks, and magma.

The legendary giants seem to be much larger than they actually are, though the only two who stand taller than 5 feet are Registeel and Regidrago. The exception is Regigigas, their Normal-type leader introduced in the fourth-generation games. However, the really impressive stat isn’t Regigigas’ height (just over 12 feet); it’s the weight.

As it turns out, the 12-foot tall Regigigas weighs an astounding 925 pounds, making it among the heaviest Pokemon in the series. It’s hard to imagine just how heavy the Poke Balls players use to catch one of these Pokemon has to be.

32 Ho-Oh

The Rainbow Pokemon

Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO

Type

Fire/Flying

Ability

Pressure, Regenerator

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

12’06”

Pokedex Entry

It will reveal itself before a pure-hearted trainer by shining its bright rainbow-colored wings.

For the first Legendary Pokemon to appear in the Pokemon anime, one would expect Ho-Oh to be a little taller. However, it’s dwarfed in comparison to Lugia, its rival mascot. At twelve feet and six inches, Ho-Oh is far from small, but it’s nowhere near the largest legendary Pokemon in the entire franchise.

The ninth generation Pokemon games offer plenty of legendary encounters, but some stand out for a number of reasons.

However, size may not matter when it comes to this legendary bird, as its Pokedex entries claim that it bestows eternal happiness on any trainer who sees it. As long as it keeps leaving rainbows wherever it goes, fans can overlook its slightly disappointing size.

31 Xurkitree

The Glowing Pokemon

Xurkitree in Pokemon

Type

Electric

Ability

Beast Boost

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

12’06”

Pokedex Entry

One of the mysterious life-forms known as Ultra Beasts. Astonishing electric shocks emanate from its entire body, according to witnesses.

For an Ultra Beast that looks oddly like the Team Skull leader Guzma, Xurkitree has a surprisingly impressive height. It stands at an equal height to Ho-Oh, though the Electric-type Pokemon shouldn’t be confused with the graceful bird. According to its Pokedex entries, Xurkitree is one of the more dangerous Ultra Beasts.

Apparently, the electrical currents surging through Xurkitree are the norm in its universe, but in the Pokemon world, it could overpower an electrical plant. Thankfully, its defensive stats aren’t all that, so opposing trainers should have no problem fighting it off.

30 Sandaconda

The Sand Snake Pokemon

Sandaconda from Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Type

Ground

Ability

Sand Spit, Shed Skin, Sand Veil

Evolution Data

Evolves from Silicobra at level 36

Height

12’06”

Pokedex Entry

When it contracts its body, over 220 pounds of sand sprays from its nose. If it ever runs out of sand, it becomes disheartened.

It might seem confusing to place Sandaconda on a list of the largest Pokemon, but the Ground-type from Gen 8 is more than meets the eye. Because of how coiled up it is, it can be hard to tell just exactly how long its body stretches for, but the Pokedex claims it extends to over 12 feet tall, passing the heights of some significant Legendary Pokemon.

Its Gigantamax form is even more massive, stretching to 72 feet tall as it becomes a huge dusty cyclone. Its Pokedex claims that Sandaconda uses its long body to fire off sand like a shotgun, carrying over a million tons of sand in its body, which frankly seems hyperbolic.

29 Dhelmise

The Sea Creeper Pokemon

Dhelmise using its anchor underwater in Pokemon

Type

Ghost/Grass

Ability

Steelworker

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

12’10”

Pokedex Entry

The soul of seaweed adrift in the waves became reborn as this Pokémon. It maintains itself with new infusions of seabed detritus and seaweed.

By looking at Dhelmise, many Pokemon fans wouldn’t assume it’s one of the largest Pokemon in existence. However, its massive size mirrors real-life anchors, which often weigh 10 to 20 tons and are between 10 and 20 feet long. This actually puts Dhelmise on the smaller side of real-life anchors, being only 12 feet long and roughly 500 lbs in weight.

Introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moon, Dhelmise isn’t just an anchor, as it is also covered with seaweed, and its face is an oversized ship wheel. It also holds the honor of being one of the heaviest Ghost-type Pokemon in the entire franchise.

28 Dragonair

The Dragon Pokemon

Three Dragonair in a field in Pokemon

Type

Dragon

Ability

Shed Skin, Marvel Scale

Evolution Data

Evolves from Dratini at level 30, evolves into Dragonite at level 55

Height

13’01”

Pokedex Entry

It is called the divine Pokemon. When its entire body brightens slightly, the weather changes.

It might be surprising that the Dragon-type Dragonair, from the very first generation of Pokemon games, is nearly twice as long as its evolution, Dragonite. This is only the first of many differences between Dragonair and its evolution, which also misses the Pokemon’s purple color palette and blue orbs on its neck and tail.

Nevertheless, this places Dragonair in the unique position of being the only Pokemon in its evolutionary line among the biggest Pokemon of all time, mainly due to its incredible serpentine length.

27 Lunala

The Moone Pokemon

Lunala reacting to a wormhole in the Pokemon anime

Type

Psychic/Ghost

Ability

Shadow Shield

Evolution Data

Evolves from Cosmoem at level 53

Height

13’01”

Pokedex Entry

Said to live in another world, this Pokémon devours light, drawing the moonless dark veil of night over the brightness of day.

Lunala is the mascot legendary for Pokemon Moon and the version counterpart to Solgaleo from Pokemon Sun. Both Lunala and Solgaleo are unique among Legendaries since they are evolved forms. The two evolve from the Psychic-type Cosmoem, who itself evolves from Cosmog.

Though it appears to be based off a bat, Lunala obviously takes most of its design inspiration from the moon, making its large size quite impressive when it takes to the sky.

26 Palkia

The Spatial PokemonPokemon Anime Palkia Channeling Psychic Energy Glowing

Type

Water/Dragon

Ability

Pressure, Telepathy

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

13’09”, 20’08” (Origin Forme)

Pokedex Entry

It is said to live in a gap in the spatial dimension parallel to ours. Palkia appears in mythology.

Palkia, a member of the Creation Trio of legendary Pokemon, is coincidentally the shortest of the three. Although it’s often not as beloved and remembered as either of the other two, it’s far from being a short king. Palkia stacks up at just under 14 feet and is also tied for height with Dawn Wings Necrozma.

Palkia is still incredibly powerful and is certainly a behemoth compared to many other Pokemon. Plus, its Origin Forme introduced in Pokemon Legends Arceus, gets a huge height boost at over 20 feet tall, which would place it much higher on this list, if it was made available in a mainline entry of the series.

25 Cetitan

The Terra Whakle Pokemon

Cetitan screaming in the snow in Pokemon

Type

Ice

Ability

Thick Fat, Slush Rush, Sheer Force

Evolution Data

Evolves from Cetoddle when given an Ice Stone

Height

14’09”

Pokedex Entry

This Pokémon wanders around snowy, icy areas. It protects its body with powerful muscles and a thick layer of fat under its skin.

Cetitan is the evolved form of Cetoddle, and both are among the few Ice-type Pokemon available to catch in Scarlet and Violet. It is known for sharing its habitats with Avalugg, though Cetitan boasts much greater physical prowess than that Ice-type. Cetoddle and Cetitan are also the only Pokemon capable of learning Ice Spinner via leveling up.

Its design is based on a beluga whale or narwhal, despite Cetitan and Cetoddle’s tendency to remain on land. In Scarlet and Violet, Cetitans can be caught near Glaseado Mountain in the North Province of Paldea, as well as through Tera Raid battles. Its pre-evolution, Cetoddle, can also be found in West Province, Area Three.

24 Dudunsparce

The Land Snake PokemonDudunsparce near a Pokemon Camp

Type

Normal

Ability

Serene Grace, Run Away, Rattled

Evolution Data

Evolves from Dunsparce when leveled up while knowing Hyper Drill

Height

11’10” (Two-Segment Form), 14’09” (Three-Segment Form)

Pokedex Entry

The gentle Dudunsparce will put Pokémon that wander into its nest onto its back and carry them to the entrance.

At long last, the Normal-type Gen 2 Pokemon Dunsparce has received an evolution. Nevertheless, as almost a prank for hardcore Dunsparce fans, its evolution Dudunsparce, just contains several more middle segments (two or three, depending on a 1/1000 chance upon evolving). However, Dudunsparce stands among the longest Pokemon in the franchise.

Although Dudunsparce’s 14 feet only applies to its 3-segment form, its 2-segment form is nothing to sneeze at either, growing up to 11 feet. Dudunsparce can only be encountered in the wild in Area Zero; otherwise, it can only be found through evolving Dunsparce after it levels up while knowing Hyper Drill.

23 Groudon

The Continent Pokemonprimal groudon in pokemon

Type

Ground, Ground/Fire (Primal Groudon)

Ability

Drought, Desolate Land (Primal Groudon)

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

11’06”, 16’05” (Primal Groudon)

Pokedex Entry

Groudon is said to be the personification of the land itself. Legends tell of its many clashes against Kyogre, as each sought to gain the power of nature.

With its regular form standing at an impressive 11 feet tall, Groudon is already a fairly large Pokemon. When in its Primal form, however, Groudon grows to a mighty 16 feet, making it one of the twenty biggest Pokemon in the franchise. For context, that’s measurably taller than a double-decker bus, though only half the height of its Primal counterpart, Kyogre.

Together with Kyogre and Rayquaza, Groudon serves as a mascot for the third generation of Pokemon games and is one of the series’ super-ancient Pokemon. It’s said to be able to expand continents by lowering the sea level, which is part of the reason why Team Magma works so hard to track it down in Ruby, Emerald, and Omega Ruby.

22 Zygarde 50%

The Order PokemonZygarde in Pokemon Anime

Type

Dragon/Ground

Ability

Aura Break, Power Construct

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

3’11” (10% Forme) 16’05” (50% Forme), 14’09” (Complete Forme)

Pokedex Entry

It’s hypothesized that it’s monitoring those who destroy the ecosystem from deep in the cave where it lives.

Interestingly enough, the incomplete form of Zygarde is actually nearly two feet taller than its Complete Forme. Serpent-like Pokemon tend to be considered taller than their bipedal or quadrupedal counterparts. It makes sense why the incomplete Zygarde is considered bigger, but it is still funny.

Zygarde, despite never getting the treatment of becoming a box legendary, is still a powerful Pokemon. It played a big role both in the anime and in a Sun and Moon side quest involving collecting Zygarde cells. Zygarde is also the super boss of Dynamax Adventures, getting two phases in its battle.

21 Lugia

The Diving PokemonLugia Flying Over Rapidash in the Pokemon Anime

Type

Psychic/Flying

Ability

Pressure, Multiscale

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

17’01”

Pokedex Entry

It is said to be the guardian of the seas. It is rumored to have been seen on the night of a storm.

Lugia, the box legendary of Pokemon Silver and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, has long been an iconic and familiar legendary. It’s the guardian of the seas, and this means it needs a body fit for navigating the ocean depths. Although it is still a bird of sorts, its serpent-like features give it some extra length.

20 Raging Bolt

The Paradox PokemonRaging Bolt in a snowy mountain in Pokemon

Type

Electric/Dragon

Ability

Protosynthesis

Evolution Data

N/A

Height

17’01”

Pokedex Entry

It’s said to incinerate everything around it with lightning launched from its fur. Very little is known about this creature.

Paradox Pokemon are a new addition to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, offering both past and future versions of already existing creatures. Raging Bolt, who debuted in the DLC expansion The Indigo Disk, is an alternate take on the Legendary Pokemon Raikou, sporting a giraffe-like long neck and a mustache shaped like clouds.

Thanks to this new design, Raikou now stands tall among the largest Pokemon in the game at 17 feet and also sports a dual Electric/Dragon-typing. It’s a massive change from the more commonly seen Raikou, who stands at about six feet tall.
