The Widow's Widow (Episode Three)

Terra begins to show her humanity

Execution of King Louis XVI in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2

episode three “Widow Widow”, is one of the slowest of the season and not much happens. It mostly focuses on Teri trying to become a mother again to Maria and teach her that she is not dangerous as a new female vampire. Just doesn't believe her, which leads to a cool but very short fight between Terra and Just.

The final execution of the King of France comes out of nowhere, but it deepens the plot with Annette. What is this devil that she sees whenever there are dead people around? The third episode opens up some questions but doesn't offer much in terms of entertainment value.

7

Into the Abyss (Episode Five)

They will be, they won't be

Annette and Richter in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2

The fifth episode Castlevania: Nocturne, “Into the Abyss”, it's another slower one that's picking up steam towards the end of the season. Alucard leaves Annette and Richter to find allies in the remnants of the French resistance in the city. Maria almost turns into a vampire, but her mom refuses.

This is also the episode that shows Erzebet Bathory finally becoming the Vampire Queen after drinking Sekhmet's blood. Finally, Annette and Richter almost kiss, but are interrupted by the disturbing ghosts of Annette's ancestors surrounding them. The fifth episode is important, but fans won't remember much about it other than advancing the plot.

Ancestors (Episode Six)

Dive into the realm of the gods

Annette as Sekhmet in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2

“Ancestors”, The sixth episode is mostly about Annette as he follows her into the realm of the gods. She hopes to find the essence of Sekhmet's soul in order to have a chance to fight against Erzebet and all her powers. It's methodical and important, but it's another episode that isn't full of amazing moments.

Here's a breakdown of the origins of the video game characters that appear in Castlevania: Nocturne.

The best part of the episode is the beginning, when Maria finally regains control of her beasts with the help of darkness. There's also a fun flashback of Richter and Annette training as kids, animated in a different style to make it look more like pencils.

5

Angel of Death (Episode Two)

Dive into the backstory of Drolta

Drolta as a human in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2

Drolta was one of the main vampire villains in the first season and died at the hands of Alucard. In the second season, she is revived at the end of the first episode. episode two “Angel of Death” begins with Drolta's backstory as an Egyptian priestess who watched over Sekhmet's tomb. After killing the vampire, she also becomes the one who watches over her mistress forever. It's part of the larger story of this episode that it's good to get some context for.

Another big revelation was that Richter went back to Just to ask for his help, and he agreed. It was nice to finally see Yust fight again, even if he wasn't at his best (unlike his debut Game Boy Advance adventure, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance). Overall, Drolta's backstory is good, as is her final fight, and seeing Juste again is a confidence booster.

4

The Line of Great Heroes (Eighth Series)

Let's leave our heroes on a high note

Richter battles Drolta in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2

“Line of great heroes” it kind of feels like it The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in that it has many endings. The battle that stopped in episode seven resumes here and is quickly resolved. That leaves the bulk of the episode devoted to the characters afterward.

It's also a build-up to a third season, but if that never happens, fans won't be too disappointed and stuck with a giant anime. While roughly two-thirds of the episode isn't filled with heart-pounding thrills, Richter does have a memorable moment when he executes Drolta. It leaves the series in a good place while keeping the door open for more.

3

Living Legend (Episode One)

Restoration of the plot

Alucard in Castlevania Nocturne season 2

The first season opens with an amazing fight scene that shows Alucard in flashback. He combs the depths of the Egyptian tomb for Sekhmet's corpse to hopefully destroy some of Erzebet Báthory's power. It's an exciting opening, but the rest of the episode is more plot-focused as it goes through the main cast and rebuilds their situation.

Castlevania Nocturne fans looking for new material should give this show a chance.

Maria misses her mom, Terri. Terra is coming to terms with being a vampire. Richter is saddened by last season's defeat, but glad that Alucard can help and so on. The wildest part “Living Legend” this is the ending where Drolta is reborn as a new demon by Abbot's hell machine.

2

Horrible Things (Episode Four)

Maria's parricide

Maria in castlevania nocturne season 2

“Horrible Things” there are many good things in it, the least of which is the final battle in the French museum. While the choreography is killer, there's another moment that surpasses almost anything that happens in season two. Maria, maddened with anger that the abbot turned her mom into a vampire as well as creating monsters herself, goes to the abbot's church to kill him.

While Justus tries to calm her down, Maria doesn't listen and instead ignites the meek father with her summoned dragon. The look in her eyes is disturbing, and the animators did a great job conveying that Maria is losing herself at this point. This is a vibrant image that would make a great desktop wallpaper.

1

Grenadye Alaso (Episode Seven)

The climactic battle

Erzebet Báthory is sucked by Drolta in Castlevania Nocturne Season 2

The second season was primed for events “Alasso Grenadas”, and the majority Castlevania seasons do have great finales. It's just weird that it came in episode seven and not eight because that episode is pretty much all action.

The fights are coming from all over the city, and they're all well-animated, too. The budget can clearly be seen here, and if this episode doesn't rock, no anime can. From Maria's magical dragon to Richter's whip-cracking antics to Alucard being just the best, this is a fantastic episode and an absolute highlight Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2.
