For characters who can’t wear proper armor in Baldur’s Gate 3 due to not having the right proficiencies, Clothing (which is technically classed as armor) is the only option. However, while players won’t get as much protection from robes and the like, the best Clothing in Baldur’s Gate 3 has some fantastic unique effects.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 7 Best Non-Origin Characters
Fans will meet plenty of non-origin characters throughout their Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough. These are some of the best.
All Clothing has an AC or Armor Class of 10, although some of the strongest have small +1 or +2 buffs. The character’s Dexterity Modifier is also added, and the resulting AC is the number that enemies must roll to hit successfully. This line-up will not only detail the best Clothing in BG3, but it will also reveal where each item can be found.
Updated on November 19, 2024, by Joe Grantham: Game of the Year winner Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive RPG with hundreds of items that can be found at various stages of the game. With that in mind, this list has been updated to include even more Clothing options. These robes and vests are primarily chosen for their stats and effects, although some players may make an aesthetic choice when choosing their BG3 outfit. While many great general options are strong when worn by any character, some BG3 Clothing items are more niche and only excel as part of specific builds.
16 Enraging Heart Garb
Gain Constitution & Wrath
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Bought at Moonrise Towers from Lann Tarv, Act 2.
Gaining any of the main stats, such as Constitution, from items is always going to be welcome, and Barbarians who the Enraging Heart Garb is made for, definitely want more Constitution to help them tank damage. The other benefit for Barbarians is that they will gain Wrath while Raging. Wrath grants +1 bonus damage with melee weapons, making this a substantial buff.
Thankfully, the Enraging Heart Garb is easy to find, as it is sold at Moonrise Towers by Lann Tarv. This location can be accessed pretty much at the start of Act 2.
15 Icebite Robe
Resistance To Cold Damage & Gain The Armor Of Agathys Spell
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Inside a sarcophagus to the north of an iron gate at Reithwin Graveyard, Act 2.
Gaining resistance to Cold damage is a huge deal, especially against enemies who use this damage type. Therefore, the Icebite Robe is something that players can use for specific fights. The Armor of Agathys spell can also make a huge difference when facing melee attackers, who will take Cold damage when they hit.
To find this particular robe for BG3, players will need to reach Act 2 and locate the Reithwin Graveyard. Look for an iron gate and then head north where the Icebite Robe is waiting inside a sarcophagus.
14 Mutilated Carapace
Bonuses While Disguised & Gain AC
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Looted from Orin in the Bhaal Temple, Act 3.
The Mutilated Carapace has the potential to be incredibly strong, but only when worn by someone using one of the highly underrated disguise spells or something similar. While disguised, characters will gain a +1 bonus to their Attack and Damage Rolls, while also gaining Advantage against Deception and Persuasion Checks. The +1 to Armor Class, however, is useful at all times.
As the Mutilated Carapace is Orin’s armor, players will need to claim it from her when they kill her as part of the story’s closing chapters. She can be found in the Temple of Bhaal, and will also drop one of the best daggers in BG3.
13 Obsidian Laced Robe
Fire Resistance & Return Fire Damage
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Bought at the Last Light Inn, Act 2.
With resistance to Fire damage alone, the Obsidian Laced Robe is already a great option, especially when facing fiery foes. However, on top of this, upon saving against a spell, the wearer of this robe will fire back at their attacker dealing Fire damage. As enemies aren’t always the smartest, they could attack while low on health and end up dying from this small but helpful amount of return damage. And on BG3’s harder difficulties, every little helps.
What makes this one of the best robes in Baldur’s Gate 3, is the fact that it can be obtained so easily at the very start of Act 2. Upon reaching the Last Light Inn, players can purchase the Obsidian Laced Robe from Quartermaster Talli. This robe will serve players fantastically during the rest of Act 2, and could perhaps be used as a niche alternative in Act 3 when players know they will be facing Fire damage.
12 Robe Of Supreme Defenses
Better AC & Saving Throws While Concentrating
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Bought from Ferg Drogher in Rivington, Act 3.
Clothing or robes are often utilized by Wizards and other spell casters, who among their arsenal of magic will have a number of spells that require concentration. With this in mind, the Robe of Supreme Defenses is a great option for those looking to stay alive. Not only will they gain +1 AC while concentrating on a spell, making them harder to hit, but they will also have their Spellcasting Modifier added to their Saving Throws. What this means, is that the strongest spellcasters will constantly find themselves shaking off the effects of enemy spells.
To purchase the Robe of Supreme Defenses from Ferg Drogher at the start of Act 3 in Rivington, players will need access to his special stock. This means a Persuasion Check must be passed if Shar is not in the party, and it if she is present it will be bypassed if she’s embraced Shar.
11 The Graceful Cloth
Grants Dexterity & Many Other Related Bonuses
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Sold by Lady Esther, Rosymorn Monastery Trail, Act 1.
Any players making use of a Dexterity build in Baldur’s Gate 3, should strongly consider taking the Mountain Path to get an item of Clothing that is useful through all three Acts. The Graceful Cloth not only gives the wearer a bonus to Dexterity Saving Throws and increases their Jump distance, but it also increases their Dexterity stat by 2, a rare bonus to gain. The Cat’s Grace spell is also perfect for when players need to survive a dangerous fall to reach one of BG3’s many hidden locations.
Players can purchase The Graceful Cloth from Lady Esther who is found on the mountain trail overlooking Rosymorn Monastery. Players could even quickly visit her and head back if they prefer to take the Underdark passage to Act 2.
10 Viconia’s Priestess Robe
Perfect For Stealth With Surprising Defensive Bonuses
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 (+1) + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Belongs to Viconia DeVir, Shar Enclave, Act 3.
Although it is only available later in the game, Viconia’s Priestess Robe is a great option for stealth, but if players have access to the Shield of Faith spell, this Clothing quickly becomes top tier. This is because when the spell is cast, the wearer will also gain a massive +2 to every single type of Saving Throws, meaning they are less likely to be afflicted by all manner of negative effects.
However, as its name suggests, this particular robe belongs to the priestess Viconia DeVir, who is the Mother Superior of the Shar Enclave in Baldur’s Gate. This enclave can be found under the House of Grief in the Lower City and whether players want to try and kill her is up to them, although they may also want to consider Shadowheart’s feelings too.
9 The Mighty Cloth
Grants Strength & Defensive Bonuses
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Bought at the Last Light Inn, Act 2.
The Mighty Cloth is all about taking on the strength of a bull, with many positive effects, and it also grants the wearer a spell and an action. The main boon of this clothing item is the bonus to the Strength stat, which is the primary stat for characters such as Barbarians. Barbarians even benefit from not wearing heavier armor, unlike other Strength classes such as Fighters and Paladins who love being tanky.
The Bull Rush Action has some great uses for either getting out of sticky situations or pushing enemies off cliffs to die. Incredibly, this item can be picked up fairly early on in the game, at the start of Act 2 as it is sold by Quartermaster Talli at the Last Light Inn.
8 Moon Devotion Robe
Grants Mage Armor & Damages Enemies Who Fail Spells
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Belongs to Isobel, Last Light Inn, Act 1.
Most wizards and sorcerers will want to use Mage Armor to increase their AC to at least 13, and the Moon Devotion Robe grants this for free, allowing these spellcasters to take other spells when leveling up. This item of Clothing also damages enemies when the wearer succeeds Saving Throws with Mage Armor active while providing bonuses to make this more likely.

7 Bonespike Garb
Improves The Defenses Of Barbarians
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Bought at the Rivington General, Act 3.
One of the best clothing items, specifically for players wanting to create great Barbarian builds, is the Bonespike Garb thanks to the increased HP when Raging. The defensive bonuses are on par with some of the best armor in the game, particularly the consistent reduction of all damage by 2.
Bonespike Garb is only available in Act 3 and can be purchased from the Dragonborn merchant Exxvikyap in the Rivington General. Thankfully, this location is accessible right at the start of the game’s third Act, and there are plenty of opportunities to obtain gold in the surrounding area.
6 Cloth Of Authority
Provides Protection From Emotion-Altering Effects
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 (+1) + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Belongs to Lord Enver Gortash, Wyrm’s Crossing, Act 3.
Cloth of Authority, as the name of the clothing suggests, shows others that its wearer is not to be messed with. It is initially worn by Lord Enver Gortash, and it is he that players must kill in order to get their hands on it.

5 Infernal Robe
Fire Resistance & A Fire Shield Spell
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 (+1) + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Rewarded by Mizora for killing Karlach, Act 1.
If players are facing off against enemies with the best fire spells in Baldur’s Gate 3, and they don’t have proficiency with armor, then the aptly named Infernal Robe will be their best option.
The extra +1 bonus to AC is also appreciated and players will also get a fantastic fire spell for themselves which can be used once per long rest. Unfortunately, the Infernal Robe can only be claimed from Mizora after recruiting Wyll and then killing Karlach.
4 Weavemother’s Robe
Fire & Cold Resistance & Heals In Water
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Complete the Avenged the Drowned quest, Act 3.
The Weavemother’s Robe is one of the best all-around clothing pieces in BG3 as it grants resistance to both Fire and Cold damage. It also comes with its own inbuilt heal as long as players stand in water, which they can create themselves with the help of a spell the robe provides.
To get their hands on the very rare armor piece known as Weavemother’s Robe, players will need to complete the “Avenge the Drowned” quest which can be found in the Lower City in Act 3. To initiate this mission, players need to talk to Allandra Grey at the Water Queen’s House Temple.
3 Vest Of Soul Rejuvenation

|
- Location: Bought at the Sorcerous Sundries, Lower City, Act 3.

Vest of Soul Rejuvenation can be found at the Sorcerous Sundries in the Lower City during Act 3, where it can be bought from either Rolan or Lorroakan’s Projection.
2 Potent Robe
Benefits Characters With High Charisma
AC |
Effects |
---|---|
10 (+1) + Dexterity Modifier |
|
- Location: Reward from Alfira for rescuing the Tieflings, Act 2.
Characters that rely on Charisma such as Sorcerers and Bards would be well-pressed to acquire the Potent Robe in Act 2 by rescuing the Tieflings and receiving a reward from Alfira. Saving the Tieflings in Act 2 is also part of one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s hardest achievements, Leave No One Behind, which requires players to keep every single Tiefling alive during all three Acts.
Having a high Charisma Modifier with the Potent Robe equipped will allow players to deal more damage with cantrips and soak more damage with additional temporary HP.
1 Robe Of The Weave
Defenses, Healing, & An Increased Chance For Spells To Hit
AC |
Effects |

10 (+2) + Dexterity Modifier |
