James Gunn announces the first animated film of the studios DC and Warner Bros. Pictures
James Gunn was excited to announce that the next film from DC Studios will be “a mix of animation, puppetry and CGI.”
MyTimeToShineHello shared X's post, which claims that Gunn and DC Studios are looking to cast a middle-aged actor as Batman. While MyTimeToShineHello doesn't say they're being considered for the role, their post includes images of Josh Hartnett, Jake Gyllenhaal and Penguin actor Colin Farrell. Rumors about the Batman cast seemed to catch Gunn's attention after Small Screen reported the “news,” prompting him to share the story on Threads and add “[bulls**t].” While Gunn previously noted that sometimes scoopers share news that isn’t true because their sources gave bad information, he called these latest Batman rumors deliberate misinformation:
Sometimes people spreading rumors get their information wrong, but other times they just seem to be making things up for clicks. This is one of the last.
Since Gunn shared Small Screen's message while debunking Batman casting rumors, one Threads user felt the need to point out that the online publication was not the source of the rumor. Gunn responded by clarifying that he did not mean to say that Small Screen was “dishonest.” In response, Small Screen wrote in Threads: “Thanks! It actually means a lot from you! I have deleted the post and I am very sorry. It sounded cool, but I'm excited to see who ends up being cast as the DCU's Batman. It all comes from love, passion and excitement.” Gunn responded by reiterating that the rumor was not Small Screen's source.
Seemingly undeterred, MyTimeToShineHello responded to Hanna by sharing another X post, writing: “Remember when Superman and Ultraman's suit was 'debunked'. Let's just wait and see.” This referenced claims by CanWeGetsomeToast and Daniel Richtman that Ultraman would be Superman's arch-nemesis in the upcoming Gunn feature film of the same name. Gunn seemingly debunked those rumors, clarifying that Lex Luthor is his main antagonist Superman the movie. however, Superman Photos have surfaced that confirm Ultraman was in the movie. Gunn's defenders pointed out that he never said Ultraman wasn't in the movie, just that he wasn't the main villain. Richtman defended his original report, explaining that Ultraman is the main villain that Superman “has to face” as he reportedly never fought Lex Luthor in the film.
While Gunn acknowledges that some false rumors stem from information that sources believe to be true, he seems to have no time for blatant misinformation. When he debunked rumors of a Mr. Freeze Batman spinoff, he admitted that rumors can be fun for fans, but he advised them not to trust the information unless it comes from him or DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran. However, rumors will likely continue until official casting is announced, so fans have been warned.
