An explanation of Star Rail's wealth dwellers

Events in Honkai: Star Rail 2.4 and 2.5 saw Borisin sneak into Xiangzhou Luofu to free their Warhead, Hulai, from the prison of shackles. This story mainly focuses on the conflict between the Barisins and their fox relatives. However, it also touches on the centuries-old war between the Xianzhou Alliance and the main faction that Borisin is a part of: the Dwellers of Wealth.

The Dwellers of Wealth consist of the long-lived species that follow the Aeon of Yaoshi, including:

  • Borisin: These canine humanoids share a common ancestor with foxes, both once living on the planet Verdantia. Yaoshi is said to have created the Red Spring in Verdantia, and those who drank from it were granted immortality. This blessing also caused a population boom in it, which led to its downfall. The survivors fled the planet, and the Borisin eventually gained notoriety for conquering other civilizations with their brute force and vast knowledge of biotechnology.
  • Wing Weavers: These are feathered species that used to live on Muldrasil. They were enemies Honkai: Star RailXianzhou since before the latter received immortality. They killed many natives of the Alliance.
  • Hmmm: These centaur-like species have four hind limbs and two arms. They formed an alliance with Borisin and were recently enslaved by the Antimatter Legion.
  • Heliobi: These are formless forms of pure energy. Their origins are unknown, and although Xianzhou classifies them as Dwellers of Wealth, their faction affiliation is unclear. They have been enemies of the Alliance since time immemorial, often attempting to possess and drain human bodies.

The conflict between the wealth dwellers and the Xiangzhou Alliance

The Inhabitants' devotion to their way makes them natural enemies of Xianzhou, whose goal is to destroy the “Plague of Wealth”. To understand this conflict, one must know the history of the Alliance, which used to be a loyal supporter of the Way of Riches.

Xianzhou History and Wealth

Centuries ago, the Xianzhou Alliance sought the medicine of immortality and obtained it from Yaoshi through the Ambrosia Arbor that Eon planted on Luofu. However, they discovered that the long life they had sought and now enjoyed was a curse, as the oldest residents of Xianzhou eventually became the 'Dream Struck'. This condition causes long-lived humans to gradually lose their minds and develop painful growths on their bodies, irrevocably turning them into hostile creatures.

Immortality also caused massive population growth in Xianzhou, which was poorly managed and led to civil wars. The fleet was attacked by outsiders who wanted immortality for themselves. Tired of the bloodshed and civil unrest, Arbiter Rainbow Lan, one of the Alliance's most ferocious heroes, rebelled against Wealth's control of Xianzhou.

Residents of wars of wealth

Not everyone supported Lan's dissent. However, the Alliance soon asked for their help when the Wingweavers began advancing on the Xianzhou fleet. The hero made a deal with Emperor Flint Heliobi, who was imprisoned in a shackle prison, to use their power. Together, they fired an arrow that destroyed the Ambrosia Arbor and the invading Wing Weaver army in one shot. The power of this attack was so strong that it damaged all the ships in the Xiangzhou fleet. Lan and Emperor Flint thereafter ascended to the gods and became the Aeon of the Hunt.

After the events of the First War of Wealth, the Alliance swore allegiance to Lan. Their mission to destroy the Dwellers of Wealth led to two more major conflicts. The latter ended with the killing of hundreds of thousands of Xianzhou pilots. It has been almost three decades since the third war, and it seems that the Barysin invasion could provoke the next one.
