In 2018, Atreus was a divisive character God of warso much so that the actor Sani Sulic changed his image due to the feedback from the players God of War Ragnarok. The last two God of war games served as an update of sorts to the series, placing Kratos in a new setting based on Norse mythology, many years after the events of the original God of war trilogy. The former Ghost of Sparta has changed a lot in that time, starting a new family and seemingly putting his violent past behind him before being forced back into action in God of war and God of War Ragnarok.
After the death of his second wife Faye, the last member of Kratos' new family is his son Atreus, who accompanies him on his travels in both Norse God of war games and develops its own main storyline as they progress. However, so far in 2018 God of war was met with high praise for the developed characterization of Kratos, the younger Atreus left fans divided between those who found him an interesting counterpoint to his cold and stoic father, and those who found him simply annoying. This decreased somewhat in 2022 God of War Ragnarokwhere Atreus is much more mature.

Current Kratos actor Christopher Judge is clarifying a recent comment that fans think is related to a possible God of War game announcement.
As it turns out, this is partly due to how players responded to Atreus in 2018. God of war game, as confirmed by Sani Sulic himself during the game God of war panel at MCM Comic Con Birmingham this weekend (via TheGamer ). Sulic said he created a fake account on Twitch and asked other users what they felt about “the kid in God of war”, with many comments saying that Atreus was a “brat”. In response, Sulich changed his approach to the role of Atreus God of War Ragnarok.

While the elder Atreus c God of War Ragnarok not met with as much anger as his young from the previous game, not everyone is happy with the son of Kratos. The original God of war Creator David Jaffe described Atreus as a “terrible character” during his critique of the latest God of war games, and even Sani Sulic decried his character's tendency to give obvious clues to puzzles in God of War Ragnarok.
However, Atreus is a key character in the two Nordics God of war games, p God of War Ragnarok specifically, leaving the door open for him to be the main character in a future entry. Many fans would like to see Atreus return and it would be interesting to see how Sani Sulic develops his character in the new God of war a secondary or primary entry that tells the journey of a young demigod God of War Ragnarok terminated.
