Although he may not have such a world-famous mascot as Super Mario or many magical monsters ready to sell goods such as Pokemon, Tetris remains one of the best-selling franchises in all of gaming, and will soon be 40 years old. To mark the milestone, developer Digital Eclipse is releasing Tetris foreverthe third entry in his Gold Master Series. I like it Creation of karateka and Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story before that Tetris forever is a kind of interactive museum that allows fans to learn about a long legendary history Tetris through archival footage and gameplay.
Game Rant recently had the opportunity to attend a private demo Tetris forever. We were given a general overview of the structure of the game, saw some classics Tetris titles in action and also got a detailed look at the original Digital Eclipse Tetris: Time Warp game included in the collection.

This upcoming indie game is Tetris Meets Slay The Spire
Tetris is one of the best puzzle games out there, and Slay the Spire has set a new bar for deck builders, and an upcoming indie game will bring them together.
Tetris Forever pays homage at every turn
Just like the Gold Master series titles before it, Tetris forever divides its interactive museum into separate sections or timelines. There will be five graphs to explore, eachfocused on another key period Tetris' history, such as its creation or relationship with Nintendo. These timelines contain text excerpts, archival and documentary footage, all designed to give fans some insight into Tetris' evolution over the years.
After studying the key context of each of the Tetris foreverin games, players can jump into gameplay directly from the timeline. During Game Rant's preview, Digital Eclipse kicked things off by showing off the very first Tetris an iteration created by Alexey Pozhitnov in June 1984 for Electronika 60. Digital Eclipse explained that no actual copies of this original iteration exist anymore, so the studio did their best to remake the game as accurately as possible.
Era-accurate sounds, game mechanics, and visuals were showcased in this demo, reflecting the look and feel of the 40-year-old Tetris iteration is very good. this Tetris forever version of the original game even comes with several different visual overlays to mimic the look of the 1985 iteration. During gameplay, the screen border also changes to look like the console/PC the game was originally released on, which seems like the cherry on top Tetris forever's cake of authenticity.
Currently, 15 games are confirmed to appear Tetris forever. They vary from the original Apple II version Tetris and Tetris 2 on the Famicom to Tetris Battle Gaiden on the Super Famicom and Super Bombliss DX on the Game Boy Color. Along with well-known iterations of the favorite puzzle, Tetris forever is home to some rarer records, some of which have never left Japan before.

Time Warp Tetris embraces and celebrates nostalgia
In each of the titles in the Gold Master series from Digital Eclipse, the developer has included at least one original game in the collection. U Tetris foreverThis is an original game Tetris: Time Warpwhich the Game Rant preview was primarily focused on. For now Tetris: Time Warp starts out like any other traditional version of a falling block puzzle game, at level 10 things take an exciting turn.
After cleaning 10 lines in Tetris: Time Warpplayers will be introduced to the titular Time Warp Tetromino. This Time Warp block moves four different visual styles, each based on a different period Tetris history. After placing this block, the player's screen is transported to the era that the Time Warp block represented. For example, placing a Time Warp block from the 1984 version of the game will take players back to 1984, changing the sound design, appearance, and game mechanics to match the era.
When transported back in time, players are given a challenge unique to that era. These challenges have a time limit of 15 seconds and range from simply clearing four lines to detonating a large bomb (Bomblis). Completing these objectives within the time limit will reward the player with points and advance to the next era in the timeline where they will be given another chance to complete the task. This continues until the player enters the modern era again or loses a time-based challenge.
Tetris: Time Warp will have 3 different eras but 4 Time Warp tetraminoes. The fourth block of the Time Warp is gold and represents the modern era Tetris. This block does not take the player back in time, but instead causes a landslide, freeing up a large portion of the screen for players who desperately need help.
Everything is included in Tetris Time Warp
Tetris: Time Warp will come with four unique game modes. The Time Warp score is standard Tetris: Time Warp modeseeing how players try to get the highest possible score. It will also be in the game 3 minute time attack, Modern marathonand The 1989 marathonwith the latter being a love letter to the Game Boy version Tetriscomplete with its own extended version of the iconic original theme music.
Players will also be able to show theirs Tetris: Time Warp skills to your friends, while the game supports 4-player split-screen multiplayer. The Time Warp mechanic works a little differently in this couch co-op mode. Instead of sending the player back in time, placing the Time Warp Tetromino sends one of their opponents back in time. While in the past, any lines a player completed would not be sent to their opponent, this means they are under strict protection until they return to the modern day.
Tetris: Time Warp
there will be no online multiplayer or leaderboards at launch.
In general, Tetris forever looks like it should be a deep celebration Tetris's a long story, and definitely worth checking out for anyone even remotely interested in the evolution of video games as a medium.
Tetris forever is slated to launch on November 12 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
