A Halo One-Two hit could be the key to the Xbox handheld's success

Back in September 2023, a leaked document from Microsoft's FTC lawsuit suggested that an Xbox handheld could be in the works. This rumored handheld was the subject of much speculation last year, and in November, Xbox boss Phil Spencer finally confirmed that an Xbox handheld was indeed in the works, though he said it could be a while before it sees the light of day. But it gives Hello the franchise has enough time to prepare.

Hello There have been some pretty big changes lately. Back in October, 343 Industries announced that everything was coming Hello projects will now use Unreal Engine 5 and not Hello EndlessSlipspace Engine. 343 has also announced that it is rebranding, adopting the new name “Halo Studios”. It's still unclear what Halo Studios will christen its new engine and title, but a one-two punch for the upcoming Xbox handheld could be massive for both the long-running sci-fi franchise and the Xbox itself.

Every Halo game ranked from worst to best

Although the Halo franchise doesn't release a title every year, it has amassed a collection of phenomenal games, as evidenced by their ratings.

It's time for a new core Halo game

The Hello the franchise has been pretty consistent when it comes to release schedules. Even amid the chaos of a new developer taking over the franchise after Bungie's departure, the new mainline Hello a record is published every 4–6 years. About three years have passed since then Halo Infinite has made its first appearance on Xbox and PC, which means that fans have begun to speculate about when they might see the new game.

For now Halo Infinite managed to pull itself back from the brink many times, and now it's a nice multiplayer experience with live maintenance, so many fans are hungry for something completely new. And based on the recent rebranding and engine change, it looks like Halo Studios might want to wipe it all off the board as well.

This new beginning must come in the form of a new highway Hello a record that clearly demonstrates the benefits of moving to Unreal Engine 5. The release of this new Hello the game alongside the upcoming Xbox handheld would also be a great way to showcase the capabilities of the handheld console, once again using the flagship franchise to showcase the technical prowess of the Xbox console.

A Halo Wars sequel may be aimed at a different audience

For a sci-fi universe as vast as HelloIt's amazing how few spin-offs there are in this franchise. But definitely the most popular Hello spinoff (except Halo 3: ODST) appears Halo Wars subseries. Debuting in 2009 and returning with a sequel in 2017, Halo Wars is an RTS spin-off in which players create and command an army of iconic UNSC, Covenant, and Outcast units.

Seven years have passed since then Halo Wars 2 released, and while several story-based DLCs have been released since its initial launch, fans of the RTS subseries have been clamoring for a full-fledged sequel for quite some time. While a Halo Wars the sequel wouldn't be as big as the new main line Hello of record, it would still be a great addition to a possible Xbox handheld lineup at launch, showcasing the console's diverse library and the intended versatility of its control scheme.
