NSW pubs, clubs and bars to stay open later for the Olympics

During the Olympics, pubs, clubs and bars will be open until the early hours of the morning, which means a major change to the working hours of one state.

NSW properties will be able to trade later than usual while they look at selected 2024 Olympic Games under a new move by the NSW Government.

The decision will give more Olympics fans the chance to root for their favorite teams, given the eight-hour time difference between Paris and Sydney.

Music and Nightlife Minister John Graham said all New South Wales pubs, clubs and bars were eligible for extended opening hours and did not have to submit individual applications to open if they were showing the Olympics live.

“Olympic fever only comes around once every four years and as Australians we know that means late nights and some sleep deprivation to enjoy it properly,” he said.

“There's nothing better than cheering on a gold medalist at home with your friends and community. Enhanced trade at the special event will support this, along with economic growth and more night-time jobs.”

The move is also set to be extended after the Olympics, when venues will be able to keep their doors open longer for “special cultural and sporting events” in a bid to boost the nightlife economy. Gaming and Racing Minister David Harris said he wanted to take advantage of the new trading hours himself.

“The Olympic Games are the greatest show on Earth and Australia is one of the most sporting nations in the world, so it will be fitting that New South Wales residents can come together at local venues to support our athletes competing in these major competitions,” he said. said.

“The expanded trade will allow our pubs, clubs and bars to benefit from the Games, while visitors will be immersed in the Olympic atmosphere.

“I look forward to joining the nightly crowds to support our Olympians over the coming weeks.”

Visitors are encouraged to register at their local locations for specific hours.

Victoria has also decided to get in on the Olympic spirit, with Premier Jacinta Allan announcing on social media that the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be broadcast free of charge in Federation Square.

Victorians can gather in the iconic square from 12pm to 10pm for the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games from 27 July to 11 August.

Matildas matches will also be shown on the big screen, although free registration is required for matches on July 26, July 29 and August 1.
