These reliable mounts allow you to traverse Hyrule much faster, though not so fast that you feel like you're missing out. Zelda will have the option find a horse it's fair in the beginning Echo of Wisdom, and this guide will show you exactly how to do it.

to get a horse Echo of Wisdom, you will need to complete the Runaway Horse side quest. This will give Zelda access to the first horse in the game. Later in the game, Zelda will be able to get her own special horse, but this requires completing the main quest Still Missing and completing Impa's Gift. Here we show you how to get a base horse as early as possible.

How to start “Runaway Horse” in Echoes of Wisdom

Visit Hyrule Ranch:

To get the first horse in Echo of Wisdom, which is called Rent a Horse, Zelda will have to make her way through Khairul Ranch in western Hyrule. This can be done at any time after completion”Mysterious Rifts” and the first main dungeon in Saturn's Ruins.

After arriving at Hyrule Ranch, make your way to the main courtyard and you'll find an old man with a quest marker above his head. When you talk to the man, he will tell you that he is not giving out horses right now because they are missing a top. He instructs Zelda to help find him. After returning the horse, Zelda will have access to the horse for herself.

Complete Runaway Horse:

The old man hints to Zelda: the horse likes to graze west of the ranch. With such knowledge, it will be quick to pick up a horse. Make your way west to the small pond shown on the map. You will see that the horse is stuck on an island in the middle of the pond. Zelda can jump straight to the pond, but you'll have to make a bed so the horse can get across.

Once you're out of the pond, head back to Hyrule Ranch. When you arrive, the old man will be very happy that the horse is back safe and sound, and he will agree to let you use any horse you want. From now on, you can use the ranch's horses as “Horse Rentals”. This is an important distinction because it means that Zelda will not yet be able to summon the horse to her when you split up. For now, the rented horse will show up on the map as a horse icon, but that's about it.

Don't forget to activate the fast travel marker at the ranch so you can return anytime, just in case you lose track of your horse and it can't be found on the map.

Zelda will be able to get her favorite white horse later in the game. This will become possible after “Still Missing” is completed and the guards will no longer be looking for Zelda.
