In 2022, Santa Monica Studio and PlayStation were launched God of War Ragnarok for PS4 and PS5. A monumental achievement God of War Ragnarok impressed players with its captivating story, stunning visuals and intense combat, successfully building on the groundbreaking 2018 God of war game Two years later, PC gamers have a chance to see what all the fuss is about God of War Ragnarokand I'm happy to report that the PC port lives up to expectations.
There were a few misfires, but for the most part, PlayStation's PC ports successfully ported the company's best games to the platform. God of War Ragnarok is another high-quality PlayStation port for PC, and as long as someone has a powerful enough rig, they can get an experience on par with, or even better than, what was achieved on the PS5. The game is polished to perfection, with near-perfect performance and graphics just as incredible as its PlayStation counterpart. Of course, the best graphics in the world don't mean much if the gameplay doesn't support it, but God of War Ragnarok provides in this arena as well.
God of War Ragnarok has the same brutal action as the 2018 game, with over-the-shoulder camera and up-close personal action. Ragnarok expands Kratos' arsenal as the game progresses, and the titular God of War can eventually wield an infinitely regenerating spear, which shakes things up considerably. Kratos mainly uses his weapons to take down the many different enemies he encounters on his journey, but they are also used to solve puzzles, such as when players need to freeze something with the Leviathan Ax.
God of War RagnarokThe PC port provides a great quality-of-life feature when it comes to solving puzzles. While the original PlayStation version of the game had Atreus and other characters quickly start solving puzzles before the players could figure them out, Ragnarok gives players the option to turn off assistance, which is a nice touch that really allows players to tailor the experience to their tastes.
God of War Ragnarok is best played with a DualSense controller
otherwise, God of War Ragnarok on PC is basically the same experience as the PlayStation version. God of War Ragnarok Sure, there are some PC-exclusive features like super-wide support and the ability to play with a mouse and keyboard, but nothing that would necessarily make it worth the double-dip for those who already own the game on console. For that matter, I strongly advise PC gamers to ditch the mouse and keyboard and get their hands on a PS5 DualSense controller instead. For now God of War Ragnarok which can certainly be played with a mouse and keyboard, as well as a host of other PC-compatible controllers (I mostly tested the game on PC using an Xbox controller), nothing compares to playing with DualSense. Tactile feedback and adaptive triggers add an extra level of immersion to the game's combat, and it's simply the best way to play God of War Ragnarok.
Those who have never played God of War Ragnarok an incredible ride awaits with the PC version. Ragnarok following the events of the 2018 game, Kratos and Atreus are feuding with the Norse gods Odin and Thor. What follows is an exciting adventure in which Kratos, Atreus and their companions explore the Nine Realms to stop a predicted apocalypse. RagnarokThe story is truly captivating and one of the best in the series to date. It's full of brilliant character interactions and shocking twists that ensure players are completely enthralled from start to finish, without a few pacing issues here and there.
I think God of War Ragnarok it's almost a perfect game until a certain section of Atreus. I don't want to go into spoilers for those who haven't played Ragnarok before, but just know that the game loses momentum significantly at a certain point when Atreus becomes the main playable character. This section of the game is boring and can make the runtime a bit bloated, though I will say that it ends with one of the most memorable boss fights of the entire God of war series. It also introduces an interesting new character, so it's a shame that the gameplay of this section is pretty boring compared to the rest of the game.
I tested God of War Ragnarok using a PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, a 12-core AMD Ryzen 9 5900X processor clocked at 3.70GHz and 32.0GB of RAM.
Other than that, it's hard to get attached to God of War Ragnarok. It's an amazing long journey full of great sights, memorable battles to take part in and tons of secrets to find. The puzzles are great and even better on the PC version, and Kratos' companions don't spoil the decisions, the worlds are fun to explore, and the story is one of the best in gaming history. However, the PC version has one drawback God of War Ragnarok that fans should know.
PSN God of War Ragnarok requirements are disappointing
unfortunately God of War Ragnarok requires a PlayStation Network account on PC. God of War Ragnarok it's strictly a single-player game, so it's unclear why Steam users would need a PSN account. It's true that it doesn't take too long to create an account or link an existing one, but it's still an inconvenience that seems like it could have been easily avoided given previous PlayStation games that appeared on Steam without such a requirement. One benefit of this is that it allows gamers to play with a PlayStation overlay that unlocks trophies at the same time as Steam achievements.
PC gamers who might look past God of War RagnarokRequiring a PSN account will allow you to have a great time with the game. But after the main story is complete, there is more to play. God of War RagnarokThe PC port includes Valhalla mode at launch, meaning gamers can get the most out of the game. Valhalla, for the uninitiated, is a special matchmaking game mode God of War Ragnarok battle with roguelike elements to tell a unique story after the events of the base game. Valhalla was a free update for the PlayStation version of the game, so it doesn't add any extra monetary value RagnarokA PC port, but it's still nice to get the whole package at once.
God of War Ragnarok will give PC gamers their money's worth and then some. It's a long adventure and one of Kratos' greatest journeys to date. However, there are some speed issues and the PSN account requirement is frustrating. It's unlikely that Sony is going to ditch the latter, so PC gamers who want to enjoy the company's games without buying a PS5 should keep that in mind.
